Hi to the global community, appreciate you having a look at my art and possibly absorbing some of it into your life. My background is a fusion of things big and small. I was born in Shepparton, Victoria in the south of Australia; grew up in Queensland in the north of Australia (mainly in Brisbane – little bit in Cairns) but have lived in Hong Kong (6 years) and Western Australia (8 years) as well as traveling from the postcard spots to the obscure.
My training and experience is in design and drawing/illustration with a gentle blowtorching of real life, pre + actual + post punk with some beautiful folk music, Volkswagen obsession and a love of low brow art.
I have used pen and ink for years for graphic illustrations but now mainly use a tablet PC combined with free hand and graphic drawing packages. Most of my paintings start as free hand studies on my tablet.
I also love using oils with not just the brush but sculpting with my hands, palette knife and applying paint through a syringe.
My art is very much influenced by people and the situations (stories) they find themselves in (usually in- your- face scary scenarios); the character/colours of the Australian landscape; popular culture; a sense of the ridiculous; social and environmental issues and an exploration of form and texture.
I really enjoy the more cartoon like approach both for my painting and drawing style to spray emotion, humor and life into the ether.
I now live on an old dairy farm on the Sunshine Coast just to the north of Brisbane with my wife, 3 kids, 2 dogs (Zuma and Zipper), Buzz the Cat,2 ducks,18 chickens , Moe Rex the Python (who lives in my studio) and countless wild and highly dangerous animals.
