NGC2264 The Christmas Tree Cluster and Cone Nebulaby astrochuck
NGC2264 The Christmas Tree Cluster and Cone Nebula with Orion ST-80 36 pictures(118 minutes) 2×60,18×120 sec,16 x300 sec@ iso800 Imaged on 2/18/2012 This is the first picture I used the modified Canon T3. I modified it by removing the stock IR filter found in all DSLR cameras. The camera becomes more sensitive to IR and especially Ha regions(the red seen in the picture) I also used a special filter (CLS) to block sky glow and light pollution.
The Cone Nebula can be seen at the bottom of the picture. The Christmas Tree cluster is the group of stars in the center of the picture. Both lie about 2600 light-years away in our galaxy. It was discovered in 1784 by William Herschel.
