Silly Romantic

Silly Romantic

How light can I get?
How silly romantic?
How much love
can I feel?

I am
a happy fool
and I don’t care

I feel her amorous fingers
on my face with kisses
of morning sun

I see her
dancing
in swaying
gauzy
threads

I hear her
with every whisper
of breeze
through
playful
chimes

I am cradled in this moment

I do not know

I do not need
or want to know
anything
but
love

    nothing silly here…

    a totally understandable yearning.

  • Assef Al-Jundi replied 13 days ago

“Silly has undergone one of the most astonishing semantic about-faces in the history of the English lexicon. In a thousand years it has gone from “blessed, happy” to “foolish.” The transformation began with “blessed” becoming “pious.” This led on via “innocent, harmless,” “pitiable,” and “feeble” to “feeble in mind, foolish.” The related Germanselig retains its original meaning “happy, blessed.” “

I must say that my intuitive understanding of the word is more in line with the old usage, than the more current.
That being said, those who are not able to relate to that state of being, may see it as a foolish and naive one! So the word works, I hope, multidimensionally!

    Thankful~

you’ve made me smile, so I thank you.

It would be interesting to write a piece that uses language in its original definition.

    Etymology is a fascinating subject.

Nonetheless, creative writing like any other art medium is up for interpretation.

  • Assef Al-Jundi replied 12 days ago

I usually don’t dig deep into etymology (I have my hands full with contemporary meanings), but certain words beg to be “investigated”...

your smile is contagious, for now I am smiling! ; )
