My Father, Ali Al-Jundi by Lahab Assef Al-Jundi

My Father, Ali Al-Jundi by

“Five butterflies lived in a house by the river.
Every morning they energetically set out
to gather flowers’ music.
One day, one returned with a sword of flames.
It declared mutiny.
Shortly, the walls crumbled,
the ceiling burned,
and, in the house, the poems died!”

This is such a beautiful tribute to your father. He has a wonderful, open expression and loving eyes. I just returned from sitting by my father’s sickbed, so it is also a poignant reminder for me of my father’s place in my heart. Best wishes to you. -Ellen

  • Thank you very much.
Glad this resonated with you, considering the tough experience you must be living through with your father’s condition.
May you have plenty of strength and love as you navigate its emotions…

My father’s “wonderful, open expression and loving eyes” are exactly what I wanted to show in sharing this portrait. I did so partly in response to a local artist’s painting of my father. It was done with good intention, as a tribute to his life and memory, but it was void of this warm expression I know so well, and the eyes were not even his, for all I know…

So beautiful- your words and this loving image of your Father! His incredible eyes…

  • Thank you so much…
His eyes were the warmest… the words here are his as well.
He was a wonderful, and accomplished, poet. I could only aspire, and be inspired, by his work…

Imagine that one of the butterflies passed his seed that the poet lives on in another generation, through another life:)

    Rest in peace

  • …as time goes on, I discover fields with birds, butterflies, and rivers of poetry coming life in the blood inheritance he passed on~

    grateful~

I’m sorry Assef I didn’t know he had passed away. He looks so great here! God bless you and your family! Was he a poet also?

  • Thank you dear friend…

He lives on in so many ways, not the least of which is his poetry, and he is still “adorable” ; )

Yes he was a poet first and foremost. He published thirteen collections of poetry, all in Arabic.
