John sat with her for a while, a long time in silence, she was aware of Darrin and Nate both there, watching them at various stages but she really didn’t care. She knew that it would have hurt John to sit with her for so long. He was scared of her, like they all were, and he was the sort of person that always had to be doing something but she was immensely proud of him for being able to sit still and t be there when she needed him. His compassion was that of quiet healing. Nate and Darrin had their own sorts and it didn’t always suit her. John simply sat there and held her hand. That simple touch was enough to banish all of the pain in her mind. Eventually she brought herself back to reality through sheer will power.
John supported her and took her back to the bed. He knew that she didn’t have the strength to do it herself, and that she would never be able to force herself to ask for the help that he knew, that they both knew she needed. When she got back to bed she didn’t lie down again, instead sitting up against the wall, still looking at the gap in the door. John didn’t leave, he simply sat on the seat beside the bed and waited for her. It didn’t take long.
“Its wrong, by the Goddess I know that its wrong, but I just…. I can’t stay here. He’ll understand… he has too…”
The last bit was less then a whisper. Barely even speaking to herself. John stood up and walked out. He came back only seconds later.
“I don’t have to say anything, Les. You know full well what he will do. Nate will have to put him in your cage to stop him from coming after you and he will be torn between the two of you. Lukys is gone. But Darrin isn’t Lukys. I won’t close this” And he left again.
It was enough. Alessa jumped up and flew out the door. Ignoring the screaming in her legs she jumped down the stair case to land on the bottom floor. She bit her lip, drawing blood. but no sound escaped. She turned and ran, clutching the sheet to her as she crept through the cold walls of the compound. She hit when one of the other residents walked past. Not wanting to confront them and knowing full well that their first reaction would be to fetch Nate. Besides she was certainly not up for a fight, no matter how strong she usually was. She was well use to walking with making no sound and it was a skill she put to use. When she found the cold red doors she increased her speed. And ran head first into Hale who was running the other way. He fell and she regained balance by pressing against the wall with her bandaged hand. Hale looked up, into her dark eyes and went to move away. He was fast, but she was so much faster. She struck with her hand into his neck , knocking his head against the wall, enough to knock him out but not to cause serious damage. She moved on quickly. Opening the door and slipping out to the shadows, she shed a single tear at the feel of the wind on her face.
It was the dark of night. Alessa stayed in the shadows. She was on the other side of the city from her home but all she needed was to find a shop. She did so quickly. Breaking through the window she grabbed a very loose long sleeve top, some loose tracksuit pants and a large jacket with hood. Quickly she pulled it all on, and then with her teeth she undid the bandages on one hand. Carefully so that she did not get any mud in the wound on that covered the entire back of her hand she grabbed mud and rubbed it into the clothes as she exited the shop. Now she looked like any other homeless person. Adding in a limp, that wasn’t that hard to fake she found herself home before the sun rose.
Inside she reset all the locks on her apartment and sat on her bed, and screamed as the Change into the wolf took over…
