The Rain

The rain
falls in diamond streams
running,
through my hair
dripping,
from newly blackened lashes
weaving,
a sooty trail down my upturned face

The mammoth dark clouds
are in no hurry to quit these shores
dear Spanish plains
blazing with orange fire
hopeful,
dreaming,
of a heavenly waterfall
to clean the smoke
from the burning air

If only we could rope these heavy clouds
send them south
to drop their wares
and wash away your fear

For we are quite done,
finished with the showers
finished with the torrents,
rivulets and gush
ready please for some glimpse
of warming summer sun
before the winter winds
of the cold north come

And then they are gone!
The great mammoth clouds,
over the horizon,
another sky to shroud

I wipe away the sooty trails,
turn my face to the vacant sky,
a perfect heavenly blue
that goes on forever
The warming summer sun
chases raindrops from my hair.
