Winter Shore

Wrote this a while ago after a bracing winter walk on the shores of Bute.

Winter Shore belongs to the following groups:

The Scots are Coming and The Word Tree

A flicker of light
at play
on the waves
A silvery sliver
across the steel grey sky

Morning
has broken through
the dark starless night

On the sea rages
meaner, greener
with every ounce
of early light

The wind is dropping
slowed to a whisper
muted
by a lacy veil of snow

The flurry vanishes
into salty air
softening
the hard edges
of a cold January dawn

Look
the sun has risen
brightly
melted away the grey

The glittering sea
now laughing
racing across the sands
eating up the bay

A fallen star
lies broken
washed upon shore
little fragment of life
now spent
sadly
shines no more

I carry her home
in a pocket called hope
While the sun smiles
warmly
chasing away
the winter storm
