A Horse called Red Mane 2005-2007
Medium: Fibreglass

The model for my work was my old (now deceased) Finnish Horse, a gelding. He shared his boundless energy and joy of life with everyone. Even as late as last year, at the age of 18, he kept jumping up while playing with a mare foal. His form and being is now immortalized in this work.
In 2005 I was asked for a work for the Jämsä" exhibition, and the presence of the river tempted me to participate. I placed the Horse in the water with only its upper part visible. The Horse appeared there under the title “Hippopotamus”.
Mythical animals appeal to me in general.
I made the Hippo into a whole animal, because I wanted him to be complete. After that summer, The Horse has spent his time on dry land, apart from getting wet with snow and rain, having been placed out in the open.
