Flora & Fauna ~ Chickadee, Snow & Indoor Pursuits by

The little birds (including an infrequently seen Carolina Wren ~ no photo of that one, unfortunately) have been buzzing the window feeder all day, went completely nutty when Ray went out with more sunflower seeds…. So I decided to find an interesting POV with our foot-o’-snow AND my blooming African Violet, to send to a friend who called today from Hawaii. This was the result.

Hamburg, NY ~ the day before the day before New Year’s.

Gorgeous! I particularly like the blanket of snow on the feeder roof! We’re sweltering here today (41C) and I’m enjoying northern hemisphere snow shots:)

  • HaHa! I can understand that. I am not a lover of heat! And last winter was most unwinterlike, so that bit of snow is welcome! Thanks, Denzil!

Thanks for this lovely peek outside your window, Sheila! This is a really nice well-stocked feeder for your little feathered friend.

  • This has been a perpetually visited site during the present cold snap… numerous chickadees, tufted titmice, a pair of cardinals (who have to go through minor contortions to get at the seed, but they manage), white- & red-breasted nuthatches, & recently, a rare (around here) Carolina wren. And the English sparrows try to move in & live in the feeder, but after they’ve had a chance to stoke their little furnaces, I wave them away. They spook easily, much more easily than the dees & the titmice. Thanks, Gene.

    Great shot, well presented Sheila

  • Thank you, John ~ those chickadees & friends are threatening to eat us out of house & home, especially in the very cold weather!

A nice contrast between the warm colours inside and cold outside!Always a wonderful sight to see the birds flying on and off and feeding.

  • Thanks much, Jim. That very same little chickadee is sitting out in the bush right now… digesting, I guess. She’s a regular, & very tame.

Wonderful clarity and detail, Sheila. Also really love the POV. Today it’s windy and about 70 in Dallas, following a nighttime low near freezing.

  • Thanks, Deb, & for the favorite. She is my favorite little Deedle-dee, among the many, & I can put my nose (or my camera) right up against the window without scaring her. In fact she owns the place…. Very cold here last night (single digits F), but moderating again & rain in the forecast tomorrow. At least we didn’t get hit by last week’s Big One!
