Almost every tree (deciduous, anyway) here in Hamburg, NY, has dropped its leaves in preparation for winter’s winds & other indignities, But the aspens in our back forty seem to be impervious. Along comes a barberry in full fall regalia, & voila! Once we get snow, the aspens will probably give up, but nothing on the horizon quite yet.

    Very pretty image Sheila …

  • Thank you, Tom. I was sitting in the kitchen eating my lunch when this scene suddenly appeared in the window. Well… it had been there for a while, but the sun kept moving & doing marvelous things to it.

    Nice capture Sheila

  • I watch that barberry bush redden & change every day. Rarely do these two colors co-exist because the aspens are usually bare by this time! Thank you, Larry.

Simple but striking Sheila – love it !

  • Just like me, eh? Thank you, Roy ~ this was one of those subjects that was Just There all of a sudden. I took several shots through the slightly grungy kitchen window, then cropped this one & fiddled slightly with the color & contrast. That barberry bush is usually full of birds, picking at the bright red berries & causing the shrub to quake, sometimes violently!

Great image Sheila. Like how you isolated the branch against the yellow…and appropriate caption. Oh yeah, a fave also. >Ron<

  • Many thanks, Ron, & for the favorite. Quite a string of salubrious days, eh? I suspect those aspen leaves will hang on a while longer! Ray was up in Muskoka, at our cabin near Huntsville for a couple of days…just enjoying the weather!

    Stunning capture Shelia, love this!

  • Many thanks for that, Roy, & for the favorite. We just returned from several days in New England… the annual Thanksgiving fiasco (of the best possible kind)… & I notice that most of those yellow aspen leaves have disappeared. No surprise. And we did have a little snow; first of the season!
