Mt. Jewett, McKean County, NW Pennsylvania.
This view shows the enormous gap in the trestle’s mid-section, created by an F-1 tornado that struck in July 2003. In past years, the trestle & its adjacent park were day-trip destinations for us, & we were desolate when we heard of what had befallen its beautiful self. Even though excursion trains crossed the trestle before the disaster, they were infrequent, & it was possible to take a leisurely walk across the bridge most any time. Such views. And as this is in a very remote & wooded spot, there is much natural beauty in the area.
