Here’s my brother-in-law John Vaughan, another matchless & magnificent Vaughan sibling, with our shared 1953 Matchless G80CS 500cc single…. This was late-restoration vintage, taken in November of 2011. The bike is now up & running, & in June, Ray had a chance to take her for a spin at a family get-together in Massachusetts. Thought John would like a print of this for his upcoming birthday, so here ’tis.

More about this treasured bike can be seen at Matchless In Sepia.

A short bio, eh? I am Sheila, & I am short.

What a wonderful looking restoration job Sheila – no wonder he looks so proud !

  • Thanks, Roy ~ I don’t have a photo of the ‘finished product’ as I wasn’t at the get-together in June. But John has done a bang-up (& I use the term advisedly) job on the old beast.

    Great shot Sheila.

  • Thanks, Gary. Can you see the family resemblance? Between John & Ray, that is….

Do you ride this machine too Sheila?
    Fabulous bit of kit indeed!
Another piece of history in the remaking!
    :o) xx

  • Thank you kindly, Robin. I have been known to ride this beast, but I’ve never actually driven it, more’s the pity. Thanks for the favorite, too. I’ll tell John that you approve….

Looks like a proud guy 8-) Great shot Sheila!

  • Justifiably proud, our John. He has worked hard on this project, & he’s won a couple of awards for it. Thanks, Torfinn, & for the favorite, too! I had a couple of postcards made of this & will present them to John when we see him next week.

Wonderful restoration, Sheila. Bet he loved this print:-)

  • Thank you, Deb, & thanks for favoring John & The Beast, too. I actually got two postcards made of this to give to him on his birthday this coming Saturday. They’ve arrived & are very good. I decided to go with a poster of the other one, ‘Matchless In Sepia’ (see link in my text above) for his main present. He has just written an article for a Matchless Club magazine, & he put a link to that pic in it. He may decide to use this one as well… but he doesn’t know about it yet! The poster has yet to materialize; had hoped to present it to him in person, but we’ll see.
