The feisty & beautiful Meg places her tabby self in front of the inscrutable. Is it a television set? A mirror? A mode of ingress for Santa? All of the above? Or just a warm place to park oneself for the duration?
Meg belongs to herself alone, but she allows the other denizens ~ canine, human & feline ~ of the house to take up space.
Taken at White Rock Farm (Leac Na Ban), in the middle of nowhere, Tayvallich near Lochgilphead, Argyll, Scotland.

    Superb capture love it.

  • Many thanks, Julie, & for the favorite. I like to think she was waiting for Santa Claus (though it was the wrong time of year), but in reality, she was mostly transfixed by her reflection.

Great humor in this excellent capture!!!! Bill

  • Thanks, Bill. Meg sat there a great deal; I tried to get her to tell me what it was all about, but she kept her own counsel. Her temperament is such that had Santa appeared in that wee space, she would probably have treated him rather roughly. And if she thought she was watching the telly, she was disappointed. No good programs on, apart from her own reflected glory!!

cats have a knack for finding the most comfortable places, and I assume that this is lit, otherwise it is a warm day – or maybe I am just reading too much into this, anyway it is really superb!

  • Ah, yes… that knack. And yes, it was alight, in late September, a good time to be seeking warmth in western Argyll. Glad I got your story-telling juices flowing. A picture like this just begs for words. It started out in color, but I decided on the sepia conversion. Seems to suit our Meg somehow! Thanks, James.

Perhaps she is waiting for it to be lit? Nice work

  • Thanks, Odille. It actually was burning… not a big blaze, but a lot of warm embers.

Contemplating the meaning of life, heat and the possibility of mousies roasting on an open fire.
A grand capture of the Tayvallich Tabby, Sheila!

  • I think Meg has a handle on most of what life has to offer, but continuous contemplation never hurt anyone. Do you remember the B. Kliban cartoons, many with cats. Your mention of ‘mousies’ brought this one to mind. There’s also the one with the cat dozing with its nose up against the baseboard in the corner of a room. There’s a thought bubble over its head, & in it is the corner of the baseboard…. Another famous one, with more relevance to my various Herdwick shots, is ‘Unnatural Ax with Sheep’. Anyway, ain’t we got fun? Thanks, Mike.

They always know the best places to sit Sheila – I think she’s trying to figure out how to light the fire….lol !

  • Thanks, Roy. The fire had been roaring but was now down to pure glowing heat! If she’d stuck her paw in there, there’d have been hell to pay, to coin a phrase…. She was waiting for ‘The Magic Roundabout’ to come on.

Oh a perfect place for a kitty to get toasty enuf for a good snuggle. Growing up…I had an old wood burning iron stove that our cat practically slept ON year-round. :o)

  • No fools, these wise cats! Thanks, Carla.

Ah, Meg the mog, a namesake after my own heart – just waiting for something to happen!.. Or trying to psyche some warming flames into appearing?!..A lovely evocative image Sheila. :)

  • Thank you, Meg, & for the fave! I know, Moggie Meg has the perfect name, & is a wise girl, too. A bit fierce at times, but wise….
