Unfortunately, I have no details on this Norton Motorcycle which is on display at the National Motorcycle Museum, Solihull, Birmingham…. But the photographic details were simply irresistible. Love this shift knob & its companion pieces. My foot would slip off, & I’d fly into oblivion. But what a way to go!
I was quite sure that this bike was an early one ~ Norton began motorcycle production in the first decade of the 20th century, & from what little I’ve been able to find out, this may be a Norton 18 (500cc), from the 1920s. I’ve found a handful (small) of photos showing this interesting knob arrangement, including some footage of one being ridden in recent days ~ guy with his toe under the knob in order to knock it upwards, of course. But I see no footpeg on this one. The digging & delving goes on. In any event, I think this qualifies as a 19-teens or ’20s bike.
