We met English Cocker Spaniel Scooby-do, his almost-all-black Springer mix pal Megan, & their Yorkshire owners on a gloomy-to-clearing day in Dumfries & Galloway. We were on our way to New Abbey, to visit the graveyard at Sweetheart Abbey & the old corn mill (covered in scaffolding), & we stopped along the way at the Drumburn Viewpoint with its panoramic sweep of the Solway Firth, & Cumbria beyond. But this photo focuses on our new-found pal Scooby: his favorite toy was a rock, any rock, & this is the one he happened to choose at Drumburn. He rolled it down the gentle slope, retrieved it, rolled it again, chased, retrieved, spun about, picked the rock up & flipped it in the air (without any apparent damage to his teeth), & was perfectly content. He finally ran out of steam & plopped down in this position. Lady friend Megan thought he was nuts, from the look of it, but the ‘parents’ said that this was normal behavior, oft observed. Wonderful, friendly dogs, both from shelters, both happy with their collective lot.
