For The Involuntary Berserker ~ A Very Old Springer, 1947 by

Here sits my older sister, Susan Eleanor McConnell, with our family Springer Spaniel, Jeff. Jeff was actually Jeff II; his predecessor had been hit by a car. This was taken the year I was born, but I wasn’t on the scene quite yet. I do not remember Jeff II ~ by the time I was conscious, Jeff had been replaced by a similar beast, Toby. In fact, Susan looks a bit like a denizen of Dogpatch, but this was not uncommon in our idyllic childhood surroundings. Hope this cheers the Green Man up. And by the bye – both Jeffs were named (by my mother) for the same icon – a hockey player from Niagara Falls, Ontario….

I love old photographs (genuine ones). This must be a lovely memory for you Sheila …

  • Thanks, Tom ~ this is indeed the genuine article (think I’ll produce it when my sister & husband celebrate their 50th anniversary in June!); I thought of ‘cleaning it up’ a bit, but I really hesitate to do that. These photos are what they are, after all…. I tweaked the contrast a little, & cropped it slightly, but otherwise, what you see is what you get.

I agree. If an old photo is damaged or creased, sure – fix it. But nothing wrong with ‘age spots’ . It adds to the appeal of the photograph in many cases.

  • And Thank You – everything Old is not necessarily New Again….

these are fantastic photos Lois. It’s nice that your parents took photos when you were young

  • Hey, Archibald – this is Sheila here, but I do have a sister-in-law named Lois…. Anyway, I answer to anything, & thanks for the comment, of course. My mother always had a camera of one sort or another, but we also had a family friend who was a shutterbug, & I suspect he took this one.
