this is tiny aboriginal girl poses in the artwork at Art Unit during an exhibition by Michael Hill sometime in the early eighties. Despite a reputation for being a somewhat dark place at times these young girls found us a great playground and a great place to hang around at. Eventually they were given their own little studio out the back and here they were perfect little mimic’s turning out artworks and tape recordings in total harmony with whatever else was going on at the time… they were never rebuffed by the culture they found at Art Unit but rather found it something they could engage with … and that’s exactly what they did…
