My very large tropical Rose Apple fruit tree Syzygium jambos (Jambu Tree, Enlightenment Tree), grown from seed, is bearing fruit and ready for the picking.
The hollow fruit consists of an outer thin 2-3mm crispy flesh layer with large 2 to 3 dry brown fibre covered seeds inside.
When ready to pick and eat the outer colour is actually a light yellow to pale green, as is the larger fruit in this photo.
The unique taste is of a rose scented flavour – hence the name Rose Apple.
Location – In home backyard, near Innisfail, Far North Queensland, AU.
