POEM First light’s breath Early Autumn Still tropical dawn Touches soft white Long stemmed Water lily bud Gently nudged Awakening White long petals Unfolding Expanding Outwards wide … First half morn glory It’s candle flame-like centre Barrier walled Lengthy yellow-tipped peaked fingers Tightly layered Coaxed in hours passing Circular top opening out ever so slightly Slow expansion, half shy Getty ready, waiting Half exposure, Sheltering virgin pollen But wait Two’s afternoon bright light Petals upwards, drawn nigh Enveloped again In bud-like form … Until tomorrow’s early morn, Darkness surrounds Nocturnal second arising, opening Cool white pristine bloom First light’s breath Draws full exposure Virgin pollen temptress Yellow prongs splayed Half day light And then, Final closure. © 2011 Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch All Rights Reserved … Framed Print
