Original artwork size: H.19.4 x W.99 cm. Shows flat detail, front side of concertina artist book format (unique state). Medium: Gouache painting. Support: 300 Arches rag paper.

Initial photographic reference imagery was taken from the landscape near Kuranda, on the Tablelands of Far North Queensland. I was inspired by the distinct difference that Eucalypt tree species grow on the higher plateau of the Tablelands but are rarely seen along the FNQ coastal land where the Reef/Sea meets the Rainforest.

About Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch

My creative art practice may be be succinctly summed up in the following fantastic metaphorical quote by Kandinsky:

“Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key then another to cause vibration of the soul.”

I really like this work…the juxtaposition of the muted squares to the clearly painted rounded. I enjoy mixing moods in paintings, you’ve done this wonderfully here!

  • Sounds wonderful.
