Medium: Graphite, acrylic. Support: Canvas. Size: Height 1220 mm x Width 916 mm x Depth 43 mm
From the Exhibition Elevating the Spirit, shown at Cairns Regional Gallery, also Sugarama Gallery at Mourilyan and Umbrella Studio at Townsville.
Brief: Repetitive mantra X’s were drawn in graphite and then overlayed with painted glazes and geometrical segmenting lines to form and capture subliminal, pondering depths and underlying mysteries, energy patterns, within the grid/lattice that represents 3D world, time, moments passing and parallell dimensions for existence of both spirit and matter.
Connecting symbols of: U vessels, X’s, hidden hearts etc.; X = vortex of cone, zero point, north/south, energy cycles, spiralling – in and out – rhythms innate; colours – earthly to spiritual; all is one, in alignment.
I often wonder how people relate to this one and the geometrical compostion. It was an inspiring creative challenge, exploring my journey in many layers and am very happy with the result. Thanks so much for sharing your response Danita. :-)
I love work that depicts the ‘journey’. There are so many interesting pieces on rb that do this, created by like minded souls! Have a look at this: remodernist painters group you might like it ..
Yes I have joined this group. Just checked – this one is still waiting for Carson’s approval!
Very beautiful and hypnotic work – working on many different levels. Personally, it does remind me of another place in time – somewhere that I have visited and forgotten. Thank you Kerryn for an interesting and quite moving piece.
Truly appreciate sharing your experience of this work Julie-Ann. You have me intrigued now. I am sure I was in a trance of some sort when I created this piece. I just start from a simple idea and away I go sorting through the problem solving … and voila, I end up with this. I loved the exploration of the translucent layering and then the resolvement of the gold X’s was a tricky balancing one. I feel I am a channel medium at the best of times and then the works in turn are my puzzling teachers! I have learnt to unravel such puzzles over the many years of art practice … and still learning.
Thanks LouJay – sorry for missing to replying sooner – work has been and is getting bizeeeerrrr. On a piece like this it is hard to get exact colours showing up right here.
