I was walking briskly along outside on my way to the loo which is located way around the back of the buildings from where I work in my retail business, Innisfail, Far North Queensland. All of a sudden I involuntarily fling the keys, held in my right hand, out of my grasp. I’d felt such sharp instant piercing pain on my third finger. I didn’t see what had stung me as looking around there was nothing immediately visible. I knew I had to rush off to get some special cream from the chemist across the street, to help minimize the swelling & pain I knew I’d get if not attended to, all the while suspecting I had been stung by a wasp.
Later I returned to the area to try and unfathom the invisible mystery. Finally I discovered that further down along the fence line from where I had been stung – about 3 meters further along – there, going unnoticed were these territorial, very aggressive by nature Paper Wasps building a well advanced nest.
After some shock/pain recovery mode time, I took some photos (with a non-macro lens) of the little beastie critters while standing well away!!!
(Obviously some cropping and editing was required.)
