Medium/s – Acrylic, mixed media, collage. Support – canvas. Original size 8″ × 6″.
I initially was inspired to use my created 3D vessel forms/imagery into a 2D format as well. This involved a) creating ‘miniature’ vessel forms’ (which I nicknamed ‘finger’ pots), b) cutting/slicing a form c) collaging in low-relief. and then d) combining with the drawing/painting of the familiar and favorite shapes of my 3d forms.
This original work was first exhibited and sold at Cairns Regional Gallery, Postcard Exhibition thru the silent auction process.

Artist Statement

  • The basket/vessel imagery used is a symbol-metaphor for our being, how we fill ‘with meaning’ (open, receptive, upright form) and empty, pour out (upside down image) our ’’thoughtful’’ thoughts in words and deeds! The colours used and ‘x’ shapes imply one’s physical and spiritual ‘connections’ and ‘relationships’ as we keep transforming as humans ‘being’.
  • I also relate my vessel images to the music symbol shapes of the ‘U’ and its inverted – ‘upside down U’ (which I cannot type literally). They relate to processes of how much we are open/receptive/for transcending our physical ‘barriers’ to beyond and closed/blocking out/used as a protective barrier/nurture. These two shapes in ‘reflection’ symbolize eg. duality, opposites ie. yin and yan, etc., are a representation of one’s life’s-work and of giving and receiving.

About Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch

My creative art practice may be be succinctly summed up in the following fantastic metaphorical quote by Kandinsky:

“Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key then another to cause vibration of the soul.”

Simply fantastic. Beautiful textures and an excellent composition combined with subtle and well balanced tones really make this work stand out!

  • Sincerely appreciate your comments Peter. The symbolism and composition has been a feeder for further ideas and work now found in my last solo exhibition.

Fantastic master piece dear Kerryn. These pastel colors, so light and bright are very difficult to put together with a so great result. The texture and composition are also beautiful. Congratulations, GP

I love this combination of several things and structures, media and weaved thoughts. Very haptical and inspiring impression, through my eyes the pastel tones reveal the pure essence.

  • Much appreciated, thankyou for your lovely comment Iris. I too loved the way this worked out so well – with the soft feminine effects and subtle pale gold hinting through the topical layers of mixed media.
