Mixed media: Textile fabric markers, acrylic, screen-print paint,
Support: Calico, canvas.
Original artwork sIze: 126.5 × 131.5 cm.

All figures were drawn directly from one life model. The work can be viewed from all sides, and at best when hung from a ceiling!

Inspired to move beyond singular and often going unseen on paper life gestural drawing studies, I wanted to work poses altogether from a night’s session of figure drawings and extend on this.
I chose one large prepared fabric cloth to work on and wanted to view it like you could a tablecloth – from all angles.

Original art work has sold and is in a Private Collection in America.

My “creative art practice” may be be succinctly summed up in the following fantastic metaphorical quote by Kandinsky:
~ “Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key then another to cause vibration of the soul.”

Amazing piece – I love the detail

  • Thanks for your comment Rachel. After many years of life drawing practice, I finally worked out a method to apply my session drawings into one large composition and Voila, this is one of the results!

A bit like your wonderful mandalas, the work can be viewed from all angles and the best view is … when hung from a ceiling (no kidding).

Hi Alexandra, glad to share this work here finally, thanks to the wonders of digital tech.. How’s Adelaide? Dry? Today (Mon.12.01.09) we are literally getting flooded out in Far North Qld, with the continual heavy monsoon rains starting from last night. Haven’t seen it this wet (Innisfail) for nearly 10 years. Time to be a duck!
