Artists at Work by the Johnstone River, Innisfail FNQ by Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch

Artists at Work by the Johnstone River, Innisfail FNQ by

Local artists working their magic from the banks of the Johnstone River, Vuletta Estate, Innisfail, Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia. The old East Innisfail Jubilee Bridge can be seen in the distance.

Medium: Archival (water-soluble) black ink & wash
Support: Cartridge paper. Original size: A1 (594 × 841 mm or 23.4 × 33.1 inch)
The challenge was to draw only with any available twig or stick lying on the ground with water-soluble black ink and a rag.

I am always inspired to ‘dance’ while making energetic marks and so I danced with what was perceived before me.

My “creative art practice” may be be succinctly summed up in the following fantastic metaphorical quote by Kandinsky:
~ “Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the harmonies, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key then another to cause vibration of the soul.”

fabulous drawing/painting. great sense of being there. love it.

  • Thanks so much Marion. It was pure pleasure creating this work outdoors with various sticks and a damp rag. I treasure this work (part of my collection) and the memories from that day.
Now that modern technology has advanced so much, I can share the image and its’ reproduction with the world.

  • Thankyou Agnes very much for the feature of this work and appreciate your kind comments above. I’ve had some very busy days, ie. travelling to Townsville and back, bookwork and retail shop upkeep etc and so much less time here. Again THANKYOU once again.

Kerryn this is wonderful… I don’t know that I can add much to the above… I agree wholeheartedly with what the others have said. By looking at this work I can feel the freedom of heart and spirit as you enjoy a great day out creating art with fellow artists… what a buz that is!! Well done… : )

  • : ) Thanks.

PS.There may have been some frustration thrown into the mix too as the small dry stem sticks/twigs kept breaking under the pressure!!
