Miniature Deep Red Anthurium Flower

Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch

Innisfail, Australia

Artist's Description

A beautiful and vibrant miniature heart-shaped deep red Anthurium flower.
Plant grown in my tropical home garden/backyard, near Innisfail, Far North Queensland, AU.
Photo was taken using my first ever purchased Pentax prime lens (late 1970’s).
The Anthurium is a flowering plant of the arum family, Araceae.
“The inflorescence bears small flowers which are perfect, containing male and female structures. The flowers are contained in dense spirals on the spadix… The spadix is elongated into a spike shape… Beneath the spadix is the spathe, a type of bract.” ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthurium#Species
