Spirit Matter Cosmos
Mixed mediums: Acrylic, rice paper, linen thread, pigment powder on canvas.
Size: 613×917 x 42 mm; Framed size: 970×665 x 50 mm
Concept: Practically stitches bind, attach, and connect materials and/or surfaces together and is a metaphor for human bonding. The stitch becomes the ‘thread’, linking and connecting to the human psyche. Using a needle and thread by hand to stitch is a slow, methodical and sometimes painful process, of pushing and pulling through materials. The process reveals the two sides (dual nature) and the in-between to this affair.
Abstractly worked, the stitch is used metaphorically for relaying energies and relationship formations.
Spirit Matter Cosmos abstractly references and resonates concepts of duality, the conscious and unconscious, complexity and simplicity, the spirit and alchemy of ‘relationships’ (blood & gold symbolism), transitory formations (the faded) illusions to connections and perceived realities. Always within, is the ‘spirit’, the centre, a voice of wisdom that guides and directs us in and through and beyond the ‘matter’.

Glad to share Anna. I really enjoyed the ‘hidden discovery’ journey of making/creating this work and what it had to teach me afterwards.

Wow kerryn – you have been so busy. I love this – the colours and the texture both are really thoughtful and interesting. Because the colours are like stains that move and float into eachother, this reminds me also of a landscape.

Lol … Seems busy is my middle name. I’ve made myself slow right down this ‘09 year by sitting more at the computer, however currently things have wound up to a fast pace with our major IAS Biennieal Art Exhibition and artwork needing to be done alongside the long physical hours of my retail shop work. Never an easy balancing act!
And thanks so much for the lovely reflective comment about the work Julie. Always appreciated. :-)
