Rosalind Porter was born in London, England and is an established artist, living in Germany.

Her painting concentrates largely on abstract / surrealist landscapes in oils but she also produces neo-realistic work, as well as some etching and sculpture.

Her style is an individually conceived abstract expressionism, whereby she generally uses colour lasuring in order to build up atmospheric intensity.

She has been exhibiting for over 15 years and her work is owned privately and institutionally in Australia, Cyprus, Great Britain, Switzerland and Germany.

“An artist has to escape!”

This feeling has accompanied me since earliest childhood. My father had an art degree from the Royal College of Art in London and became a pottery teacher at an art college there. I was always coming into contact with his colleagues, ( painters, sculptors, photographers). I knew their work, their studios and the creative atmosphere surrounding them. I can also remember setting off on the tube up to South Kensington with drawing book and pencils, food and drink supplies….and a cushion! The target was The Natural History Museum where I spent whole days on my own sketching and studying, oblivious of others.

Later, I studied music, the cello and became successful in this field. However, the inner affinity and passion for art was always there, urging me to do it! So parallel to my music profession, I painted and drew consistently. I frequently attended classes for life drawing and etching. The painting… mainly oil-painting, became more and more essential for me and in the early 1990’s, I began to give solo exhibitions.

My search for something special has never stopped. Those early influences, the famous and wonderful art that we can see and that nervous feeling of freedom when painting….so frustrating as it can be!…that is all the enigma of being an artist.
