The painting was sparked by the photo:
This photo had a sense of isolation and sadness that tagged at the heart. In particular
the penguin, with his head hanging down on his chest got stuck in my head, almost haunting me…I think it is just the way penguins sleep, standing up with head slumped on their chest, but to me it looks like a totally distressed person…This, and echoes of The Tragedy by Picasso
planted the seed for this painting in my mind.
Painted with Winsor Newton paints and Derwent watercolor pencils on Arches CP 140lbs paper.
