Confluence - Hollyhock Lines
Watercolor painting. Original size 11×11”
Winsor-Newton pigments, 140lb Arches cold press water color paper.
Done using reference photos of hollyhocks (Alcea Rosea Nigra) from my garden. Should be nearly black, but I like these colors.
I rarely paint ‘just’ flowers, but hopefully this will be part of a triptych with other elements.

I wanted to vote for this in the One Picture Tells a thousand Words RedBubble comp, but I couldn’t see how to do it. Would you mind just clarifying how we get to do that please. It’s a beautiful work – i did go to the group and gave up trying to find it after clicking into about 20 panels of thumbnails. Thanks

I recently took a photo of the same colour hollyhock that you have painted here. I was going to paint it but now I’m not so sure. I couldn’t come close to what you have done here. Simply amazing. Such a wonderful use of colour. I like the gray green background.

Thank you!
You should give it a go anyhow – you may surprise yourself, and you’ll definitely have more than you have now (which is…no painting at all:) )
Anyhow, if you want a short outline how I made it b-mail me.
(Tonight is the reception of the exhibition this painting is in – so exciting!)
