Unfreakin REAL! This is almost a fantasy vision from real life. I can follow at least 4 lighting angles but can’t quite see the way the inner side of her hand is lighted. Probably 3 additional, highly subtle sources knowing your eye. :-) And lens details would be sweet to know, if you’ll share them.
The model is damn cute and I can almost see the pixie popping out by way of her hair. :-D I could stare at the pose a lifetime and never choose a single emotion to cover all the possibilities: the tension echoed between the hands; the conflict between the tightly guarded body and outreaching hand; the facial expression of sirens or a questioning innocent seeking your opinion.
I think I have a new favourite of your work. I couldn’t enjoy the way you fully capture a woman’s nude beauty any more than I could enjoy this intriguing piece. Just The Best.
Interesting observations, Lenny. This was our first shoot and that’s often a time of discovery. I found she responded well to fairly abstract suggestions. Check out the shoot on my DreamsOfTheGoddess.com web site. The lens was a Nikkor 10.5mm on a D-200 and the lighting was actually fairly simple. I had two snooted lights with 7” reflectors behind her, the one on the left was high and acted as the main light, the one to the right was used to kick some rim light on her. In front I was using a 18” foil umbrella on a boom mounted light so I could quickly quickly experiment with low angles. It was kind of a modified Boris Karloff setup. The light on the inside of the hand is actually coming from the back left light spilling over her shoulder and mixing with the fairly hard light coming from the small foil umbrella in front.
I find this amazing, knowing the lens and lights helps to understand how you achieved this. Exposure details would be interesting. Love this well done!
I exposed it at f14, which gave me plenty of depth of field with this lens. -Chris
