"Just Another Artist"- C 1989, By Dennis L. Knecht

I’ve got to find another way to go….

With you- I’m the King of Hearts-

But, when I come back I wear a smile

And you always wear a frown….

Should I move into the city

Or just another small town?

Can I keep wearing my smile-

Or will they drag me down?

It’s not easy being a creator-

There’s so many of us around….

But, I’ll do my poems, music, and paintings

Till they put me in the ground….

If I can"t plug in my keyboard-

I’ll hum it to myself….

If I have to hock my drum-set

I’ll tap change to myself….

If I run out of canvas-

I’ll paint on subway walls….

Can I keep wearing my smile-

Or will the critics shoot me down?

I’ll still smile in my paintings and songs-

When I’m no longer around….

Yes, I’ll make my music and paintings-

Till they put me in the ground….

I’m just another artist-

As long as I’m around….
