THIS PAINTING IN OILS ON A 20″×30″ CANVAS IS FOR SALE AT £999. E-MAIL mike@transportartist.co.uk FOR DETAILS.

Poole in Dorset was once a bustling working port but now is just a rather twee tourist attraction. Christoper Hill had a small fleet of lorries and seemed to favour Seddons and this smart example is being roped by its driver before setting off with its load of animal feed.

Painted in oils on canvas a few yearsago a painting like this would cost about £1500.

I love the strong sun on the orange cab. Your detail on the tug (or barge?) in the background is beautiful. A great one, Mike!

  • Thank you Fran, that livery is a gift (as I remember it really was that bright) set off against the blue sky.

Beautiful work Mike!! You are a very talented man! :)

  • Thank you Wendi, I’ve never thought my work was outstanding enough to be commented on so kindly by a real artist such as yourself.

Excellent painting Mike. I used to car animal feed and wheat/barley line this in sacks. All loaded on by elevator. Catch em and stack em. Rope and sheet em. Those were the days and I was SO fit. – Ted

  • Thanks Ted, I know what you mean, I was in the sand and gravel tipper trade but even I was as fit as a butcher’s dog!

Great scene and showing roping when it was actually a real skill

  • Thanks David, yes I remember the struggle it could be from my time with the old Green Fleet and how I never missed that aspect of the job when I went onto tippers.

A really good work of art is a scene you feel you could walk into. And here it is! It’s not just the orange cab but the way you depicted the clouds and the water; even the yellow-tinged chrome bumper, as opposed to the blue-tinged passenger side windscreen. The colours and tones, I believe are what make it outstanding. My daughter reckons I should just say I like every single thing in this picture!

Congratulations on making it to the front page Mike. Excuse my ignorance if this is NOT the first time; but it was a breath of fresh air to recognise one of your stunning images on the front!

  • Thank you George, it is the first time I’ve made the front page, let’s hope it’s not the last!
