The Foden DG was a quality lorry built to last and ideal for the rough and tumble conditions of the construction industry and in post-war Britain there was a great boom as war-damaged cities were rebuilt and new projects started. Here a Foden of the giant Laing group is loaded with rubble on a site in the heart of London sometime in the late forties.

I love the bits of history you add to your excellent paintings.
Of course I’m old enough to remember all this the first time around.
    Cheers Neil

  • Hi Neil, we took it all for granted, there was such variety then, now a bland sameness has desended on everything.

Great painting Mike. I remember the great London bombsite clearance late 40’s early 50’s. Loved playing on a bomb site as a kid. Outside H & S rules I guess. – Ted

  • Yes Ted, H&S wouldn’t have allowed Hitler to bomb us in the first place, can you imagine what those jobsworths would have done in the Blitz.
