At the head of a rake of immaculate carriages A1 Pacific 60141 speeds by a permanent way gang with an inter-city Pullman on the East Coast main line sometime in the fifties. No doubt the privileged occupants of the train would observe the gangers standing around doing nothing and perhaps even comment on the idleness of the lower orders completely unaware that the men are waiting for their train to pass before resuming their work. The trackbeds of Britain’s main lines in those days were arguably the best maintained in the World especially so the important truck routes where the highest speeds were expected and gave a driver confidence that he could use the locomotive to the full safe in the knowledge that the track was in the best condition possible at all times.
A painting like this of your favourite vehicle, British or American, in oils on canvas or board would cost about £2000.

I should have removed this because the frame is showing and there’s distortion on the left but in view of the positive comments I think I’ll leave it up, thank you both!
Posative comments! I should think so Mike. Excellent as always. – Ted
Thanks Ted, just for you I’ll leave it up there until they make me remove it!
