Scammell tanker 1926 by Mike Jeffries

Currently unavailable for purchase

THIS PAINTING IN ACRYLICS ON A3 SIZE WATER-COLOUR PAPER IS FOR SALE AT £350. E-MAILmike@transportartist.co.uk FOR DETAILS.

The Frameless Tanker was developed by Scammell to reduce unladen weight by having the tank double as a container and support for the load. This 1926 model was one of the first in the field in the bulk transport of fresh milk by road, before then a preserve of the railway companies. It took a long time but eventually road transport would take all the fresh milk traffic in Britain from the declining railway.

Fantastic new batch of work Mike, love them all! While not particularly a fan of vehicles as such, I really enjoy looking at your paintings of them and these old road warriors make excellent subjects for your wonderful art. Great stuff! :)

  • Thank you Bryan, to me these vehicles have a beauty all their own because with most of them they just evolved, no stylist was involved in their form, the industry had no time for such nonesense in those days, and therefore we see in this a purity sadly lacking today.

I would like to see a really basic practical lorry today but every lorry has two seats, when one is enough, un-nescessary curved windscreens and “styled” cabs with complex pressings that add to the price.
