THIS PAINTING IS SOLD BUT YOU TOO CAN COMMISSION MIKE TO PAINT YOUR VERY OWN ORIGINAL OF YOUR FAVOURITE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE WHETHER BRITISH OR AMERICAN, A SOUND INVESTMENT FROM WHOM MANY REGARD AS BRITAIN’S LEADING TRANSPORT ARTIST. JUST E-MAIL mike@transportartist.co.uk

This is similar to my " Up express to Paddington" but a far lighter version done at the same time some years ago.

The Castle class of the Great Western Railway were the most successful and efficent passenger express locomotives of any railway in Britain and perhaps the World. There may have been more powerful engines, or faster engines but on a day to day basis a Castle, due to its sound basic design, exacting Swindon engineering, the Great Western’s high standard of maintenance and the skill of the footplatemen, really did deliver the goods, or perhaps we should say the passengers.

An oil painting like this on board or canvas 20”x30” of your favourite railway subject, British, American or even French, would cost about £2000..

Yes, that could be anywhere on the GWR.

I note the lower quadrant Semaphore – was it based on a real life location?

It’s so long ago since I painted these pictures that I honestly don’t know but I think that I most likely put the signal in to give the composition a balance.

Thanks, Woodie, I’ve got about fifty more images but I haven’t gotten round to photographing them yet as I’m very busy doing my twelve pictures for my 2012 calendar.
