THIS PAINTING IN OILS ON A 18″×26″ CANVAS BOARD IS FOR SALE AT £999. E-MAILmike@transportartist.co.uk FOR DETAILS.

Knowles can trace their origins in transport back to 1932 when 17 year old Gerald scraped together £75 to buy a second-hand Ford model T. A year later he traded it in for his first Bedford, a make which were to stay a firm favourite for the next 40 years.

The S type introduced in 1950 as the “Big Bedford”, despite its cramped cab by modern standards, was a most successful range of models and was in production for ten years and this tractor unit of Knowles Transport loaded with a good ten tons or more of flake maize is typical of the firms 1950s road haulage fleet.

Excellent again Mike. I’ve carted flaked maize and wheat products too, a dusty job. The army had a 4×4 version of this type too. – Ted

Stunning realism and details, Mike .Even the bricks must have taken painstaking time and labour. How long did this amazing painting take you?

Hi Colin and thanks for your comments but I try not to be painstaking in my work if possible, if you look carefully not every brick is delineated or painted in, it just appears that way and is was painted quite quickly. Difficult to say how long as I always have several paintings on the go at once, but the 12 paintings I produce for a calendar every year normally take about 3 to 4 months.

One a week! Amazing. The skill of implied detail, painted really fast, is a real talent.
Thanks for the info, Mike. I am just starting, so getting lots of inspiration from different areas.
