THIS PAINTING IS SOLD BUT YOU TOO CAN COMMISSION MIKE TO PAINT YOUR VERY OWN ORIGINAL OF YOUR FAVOURITE STEAM LOCOMOTIVE WHETHER BRITISH OR AMERICAN, A SOUND INVESTMENT FROM WHOM MANY REGARD AS BRITAIN’S LEADING TRANSPORT ARTIST. JUST E-MAIL mike@transportartist.co.uk

The Castle class of the Great Western Railway were the most successful and efficent passenger express locomotives of any railway in Britain and perhaps the World. There may have been more powerful engines, or faster engines but on a day to day basis a Castle, due to its sound basic design, exacting Swindon engineering, the Great Western’s high standard of maintenance and the skill of the footplatemen, really did deliver.

Here a Castle heads an up express out of the Westcountry to the capital in a scene that could be the 1930s though to the 1950s.

An oil painting like this on board or canvas 20″×30″ of your favourite railway subject, British, American or even French, would cost from £2000.

E-mail me on mike@transportartist.co.uk or ring 07884462140.

The great and romantic era of steam locomotives. The British carriages, with compartments, the great stations and platforms. This is brilliant.

Wonderfully atmospheric Mike. Wish I could paint like this. Love the low light hitting the side of the cariages and Engine. You can almost hear her! I even like the bridge way off in the distance – great stuff!

Wonderful painting Mike – brings back that great era when as a spotty faced kid I used to scale the walls of Horton Road Shed, Gloucester to gaze at the, by then, sadly neglected ex GWR loco’s. Love your style.

  • Thanks Terry, in my time on the footplate I occasionally worked to Gloucester from Birmingham and the old LMS shed which was, I think, called Barnwood near Tramway Junction but most times we’d go sailing though Glouscester bound for Brum or Bristol.
