Racing down the last leg on the elevated section to Dover ferry terminal a Volvo F89 of Lumsden’s is loaded with a tank for the B.A.O.R in Germany followed by another of his lorries, a Ford Transcontinental with a similar load. These tanks were returned to England on a regular basis for updating and modification during the Cold War years and Lumsdens, who specialised in large loads and European haulage, had the lucrative contract to move them.
The energetic and no nonsense David Lumsden, a good friend and client of mine, is still in the haulage business and is one of those people who will never retire—————he’s far too busy!
The original of this painting was in oils on a 20″×30″ board.
A painting like this of your favourite vehicle, British or American, in oils on canvas or board would cost about £1500.

Mike please add this to Truckies group this is brilliant
Stunning work mike, as ever, plus i love the information that you place in the box at the side….The volvos and transcon’s were the trucks that everyone driving an aki, guy or aec dreamed of driving !!! Transport, before technology took away its freedom !
I’d prefer the AEC or Guy, even an Atki I’m afraid!

Thank you Maggie and welcome to the world of artists, we’re a funny lot but one thing most of us have in common is that we can’t stop painting!
You crtainly show so much promise for someone who has just started and I should think that painting will become much more than just a hobby, read my bio to see how art has become a large part of my life and I imagine that my story has very much in common with so many of my fellow artists———eventually it fills every waking hour and the days don’t seem to have enough hours in them.
