GWR Castle on Broadsands viaduct
Climbing to the summit at Churston ex-Great Western 4.6.0 Castle 4089”Donnington Castle” has just crossed Broadsands viaduct with a holiday train bound for Kingswear.
Most passengers would have left the train at the resort of Paignton and many more will detrain at Churston for the branch line to the little fishing town of Brixham and a few, most likely in First Class, will carry on to Kingswear for the up-market town of Dartmouth.
An oil painting like this on board or canvas 20”x30” of your favourite railway subject, British, American or even French, would cost from £1000.

Damn! The engine’s working hard here against the hard gradient and probably only managing 20-25 mph if that, but it is moving as you say.

I have a cinder in my eye or is it just nostalgia.Great work.
Mike Jeffries replied
Thank you Rob, living in nearby Brixham for nigh on 30 years I know this location so well which happily still exists today, the viaducts on the Kingswear branch are well over 100 years old so lets hope they last another century and sights like this will still be possible but I suppose by then ‘eath ’ n safety and the greens will outlaw the lovely steam engine!

Well done! A romantic view of a train like this really gets me (thunk to the chest).
