In Search of an Ideal Something

Lost and hiding behind the superficial mask
She created
In search of an ideal something

Masquerading behind silicone valley
In bed with botox
Hooking up with in and out-patient anesthetics
Bending over for Vicodin
And drinking tea with Exlax
In search of an ideal something

As you disguise your pain with a show and tell
of your red lips, Fake Blue eyes
And Deep dark eye shadow
Your makeover tells the story of a bruised heart
A blackend soul
And a broken spirit

Your mascara runs down your face
Like a road map to no where
Chasing the empty promises
sold to you
over the counter
like those dreams
of happiness
with your sleeping pill prescriptions
like a toy in a crackerjack box
The result
not what you expected and disappointed

your life is a masquerade ball
without the glitz and glamour of the
midnight reveal

In search of the
The perfect Angelina Jolie lips
The perfect J-Lo ass
And the perfect Naomi Campbell cheekbones
You have peeled away the beautiful layers
And lost the ideal something
That’s you

In Search of an Ideal Something by

This was created for a Masquerade / False Faces Visual Arts event curated by Helene Ruiz in NYC.

The poem was to depict the mask the woman has created for herself in a search of her ideal something.
