Now doing some modeling in the shadow areas on the body with a soft round pointed brush in dark blue. Note the cast shadow of the tail on the leg is strong but the self shadowing of the left leg is softer, cast shadows always seem harder and sharper, distance can make it otherwise.
Now to not mess with it then latter come into the dark with a solid lighter body color. Note I am making it easy for myself in that most of all shadows here will be in the dark side of the sand so no need to work them out, the animals droppings may need a shadow but only if it does not confuse the image. I wonder if this particular technique would not have been easier and quicker in acrylic as there is much waiting for layers to dry. I am not saying put acrylic over oil, never do that but I may try an acrylic painting for my next one if I paint it this way and see how it goes.
More to be done yet.
Here is the final version finished. This is where I want it to be, not more finished as thats not going to do anything more other then kill it. Right now, this is it, done. I am pleased with the result, the original still needs to be signed as the sig here is digital.
So basically minimal work from the last stage, some work on the droppings, they are important but I don’t need them finished to a high degree as I don’t really want that the center of interest, its in your face anyway, so enough detail there, And then some working of a dark brown, not as thick as I mentioned before as it did not need it.
Note I also removed excessive paint marks in the white sand as the idea is 2D and in this work high paint edges only destroy the 2D illusion, or to put it another way, its a 2d surface with the illusion of 3d, adding thick 3d paint will enforce nether effect but distract here, so I reduced it.
Also just a very little extra work to the dust cloud and thats it. The original is also for sale, contact me.
