Into The Light
When time has come and death is near
They show their strength and hide their fear
They share a joke, then shed a tear
Last moments spent with those held dear
As grasp released on life held tight
And darkness falls, as though the night
Then soon replaced by something bright
Freed soul now moves into the light
As toward the light they do ascend
They understand, they comprehend
It’s just begun, it’s not the end
Forever does their life extend
This fractal artwork was inspired one night while watching a show on the television called ‘Ghost Whisperer’, where a woman is able to communicate with earthbound souls and help them ‘cross over to the other side’. As is the case in many near death experiences, the folks that die for a few moments and then come back describe going towards a beautiful light.
I am not really a very religious person, however, I do believe that there is something much greater than us all in the grand scheme of things in the universe. In physics, the law of conservation of energy states that the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant. A consequence of this law is that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed in form. Seeing as how humans are basically a large network of electricity and magnetism (energy) housed within our bodies (matter), and given the physics law stated above, then this energy that makes us what we are can not die, but only change form.
So what many may term as our souls (energy) must move on as another form of energy. So someone that dies for a moment and them makes it back saying that they see this light may not be as far-fetched as a lot of folks think… even from the scientific perspective.
This fractal artwork was created in Apophysis, and is meant to conceptually portray what that light may look like as we move toward it after our physical demise, that portal where our life energy is converted into another form. The original is 3600 pixels square at 300 pixels per inch and took 51 hours and 22 minutes to render on a 3.2 Ghz PC with 4 GB of RAM. These technical details so you can appreciate how detailed the print is.

Stunning fractal work…and words are spot on…know that light :)

Thank you, CJ! ...and I hope knowing that light didn’t come from a personal and painful experience for you.

this energy that makes us what we are can not die, but only change form. very true…the spirit goes on…the form alters as to our conscious memory of body.
I hope knowing that light didn’t come from a personal and painful experience for you. died at 2 (brought back after 4hrs – think was only unconscious then), died at 16 (in a hospital after hemorrhaging from op), died again at 42 (in a friends house)...but came back from them all…much to the amazement of friends, family & medical teams…guess they didn’t want me upstairs yet…lol We basically come from that light…to have a physical experience…then return to that light…it is always with us if we want to connect to it…the best guide any one can have :)

Thank you, CJ… as this ongoing battle with my cancer has me hoping there is more to life than we can see… and you have helped me by giving me that hope :)

Psyche
THIS, Yes This is something that is interesting. But still I think it is definable we all expect to see it when we have an out of body experience or die for a few minutes. I like the concept. I just want a really demanding explanation on why you think this is an undefinable piece. NO THE undefinable piece. TELL ME that WHY IT DESERVES TO BE THE UNDEFINABLE PIECE. Wow. Sorry I’ve gone two days without sleep but I think you should defend your art and convince people that your art is the best and worthy. Woo with your words. NOt poetry convince! I like this those. It’s on the right idea!
ArtByDrew replied
Thank you, Psyche! The explanation follows the poetry in the description on the right. The defining element is that of hope, as this is an important concept when you are at battle with cancer and losing it. We all need something to hold on to!

Okay so Psyche is no more, I, Brianne, am now CrazyB. But I think I need to be a little clearer. See you have the right idea with your picture, it’s just you quoted that you got the idea of a t.v. show which means it’s something easily recognizable and therefore somewhat definable. Lemme give you a hint. Don’t focus on the hope aspect, it’s endearing and I did hope for my grandfather to see that light and go peacefully to God when he died of brain cancer. Instead forcus on it being an experience that is trully unique to everyone. Like seeing aliens, we all have the same basic description but the details are different. In this sense it can’t trully be defined. Have I helped any? I just want all entries to be at full compacity when it comes to voting because I will be issuing strict guidelines by which to vote for.
Thanks,
Brianne/CrazyB
