This old wooden split rail fence is located not far from the cabin, Philip’s Place in Stevenson, Alabama, USA.

There’s a history to split rail fences I wasn’t aware of. A few comments down, olehippy3 gave me a history lesson that’s pretty cool. I’ve received his permission to share it here: … the reason you see so many of the split-rail fences down south…..is because of the Civil War…the North had all the metal, for nails and the such….the Southerners had to make do with what they had….hence stacking the fences instead of nailing them…
…and that’s today’s Civil War history lesson. Thanks for sharing olehippy13!!!

This photo is one of many I recently re-discovered in my collection of old stuff from many years back.

… photo taken in Stevenson, Alabama, USA, in the mid 1980’s
After scanning this photo to my computer, I did simple enhancements only before uploading it to RB.
