This old wooden split rail fence is located not far from the cabin, Philip’s Place in Stevenson, Alabama, USA.
There’s a history to split rail fences I wasn’t aware of. A few comments down, olehippy3 gave me a history lesson that’s pretty cool. I’ve received his permission to share it here: … the reason you see so many of the split-rail fences down south…..is because of the Civil War…the North had all the metal, for nails and the such….the Southerners had to make do with what they had….hence stacking the fences instead of nailing them…
