In May of 1839, thirteen members who were dismissed from another church met to officially organize as a new local church. The Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church had begun. The congregation occupied two new church buildings over the following years. The first building was located on Hyatt Hill in 1894. The second building was built on its current site in 1915. The Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church ceased operations in 1944. However, the building has been preserved as part of the Cades Cove history.

More than once, my wife and I visited this church and walked through its cemetery. I’ve always been attracted to historical locations like this.
