I May Look Gentle, But Try Pushing My Buttons... by

This bull was among the cattle I took pics of while on our Highway 11E&W excursion between Knox and Granger Counties of East Tennessee. Isn’t he just the most laid back and cutest thing you ever did see?

As an artist I enjoy painting and photographing segments of rural life. Country living became a new world for me back in the sixties when we moved from Chicago, Illinois to East Tennessee. I want to capture what I now see before country living vanishes… at least in my area!

Bob, during the mid fiftiies to late sixties, one of my uncles was the livestock forman for a large plantation in Mississippi. I had the pleasure of working for him a couple of different summers during the late sixties. Trust me when I tell you managing these old bulls is very much like getting a one ton 3 year to do something he doesn’t want to do. Nice pic.

  • Interesting bio Jim! I enjoy stories like this. On our farm, back in the late 60’s, we have a herd of Black Angus. The big kahuna of the herd was named Buck. I guess I had more respect for this bull than any other four legged creature we had. Richard (my uncle, who is now deceased) and I had talked about trying to ride Buck… but we never got up the courage to go past the talking stage, lol! Thanks Jim!!!

Looks a real gentle giant Bob, but I would not like to see him in a bad mood !!! lol

  • lol… George, these guys hardly ever show their current mood. That’s the eye-opening situation when being around these bulls … Now, let’s see, is this guy in a good mood or what. Don’t think I’m willing to find out. Think about buddy, the tough ones don’t have to advertise it, lol! Much appreciated my friend across the pond!!!

Yikes!!!! He’s a big boy!!! I was raised on a holstein dairy farm. Bulls are dangerous, I hope you had a good fence between you and him.

  • Yes, and a little common sense to boot… I’m sure you know what I’m talking about Carolyn, lol! Thanks bunches for your visit, nice comment, and fave!!!
