Location: Cades Cove, Tennessee, U.S.A.

In May of 1839, thirteen members who were dismissed from another church met to officially organize a new local church, Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church. The congregation of this local assembly occupied two new church buildings over the following years. The first building was located on Hyatt Hill in 1894. The second building was built on its current site in 1915. The Cades Cove Missionary Baptist Church ceased operations in 1944. However, the building has been preserved as part of the Cades Cove history.

More than once my wife and I visited this church and walked through its cemetery. I’ve always been attracted to historical locations like this.

Ideas for wall hanging: All prints can be affixed to a hard-back surface with picture hangers. Also, the canvas print: If it’s desired to hang the canvas print in gallery style, the purchaser can be creative and address the sides of the canvas to match the color of the frame impression or wall.

As an artist I enjoy painting and photographing segments of rural life. Country living became a new world for me back in the sixties when we moved from Chicago, Illinois to East Tennessee. I want to capture what I now see before country living vanishes… at least in my area!

I remember painting an old Baptist Church outside of Oxford MS that had a similar look to this one Bob.

  • Cool! I wish I had a dollar for each time this particular church was either painted or photographed. Thanks Jim!!!
