Recently, Holly and I attended a cowboy roundup in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. This year is the 13th year of the Saddle Up Celebration cowboy gathering there. This cowboy convention is one of the largest in the Southeast. Saddle Up Celebration consists of cowboy entertainment and activities such as cowboy storytelling and poetry, Western music concerts, a chuck wagon cookoff, and Cowboy Church on Sunday.

At the various events can be found famous cowboy look-a-likes walking about socializing and posing for pictures. These two are John Wayne and Lash LaRue look-a-likes.

Here’s a link for next year’s Saddle Up Celebration in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, USA:

As an artist I enjoy painting and photographing segments of rural life. Country living became a new world for me back in the sixties when we moved from Chicago, Illinois to East Tennessee. I want to capture what I now see before country living vanishes… at least in my area!

The Duke and Gene, how cool.

  • Thanks Jim!!! Yeah, looking at these guys took me back to a few westerns I’m familiar with. Saddle Up was a fun and interesting event.

    Awesome capture, Bob!

  • … glad you like it Dlouise!!! To see these guys, alone, was worth going to the celebration. Even though they are only look-a-likes, I felt as if I were in the presence of the originals. This really doesn’t mean much in the light of real life, just … it took my back a few years, lol!

Though I’m not too familiar with Lash LaRue, I sure am with THE DUKE, and that dude sure does resemble The Duke. Hats off to this capture Bob, and your Sepia treatemnt is quite fitting. Almost forgot, even though he’s a pseudo Duke, still warrants faving. :)) >Ron<

  • Yep, everyone knows THE DUKE. Here’s a tidbit on LaRue: Alfred “Lash” LaRue was a popular western motion picture star of the 1940s and 1950s. He had exceptional skill with the bull whip, and taught Harrison Ford how to use a bullwhip in the Indiana Jones movies ( Wikipedia). Many thanks for the comment and fave Ron!!!
